About once per day there is a massive downpour like this. The rain never lasts long, and will often only hit one part of town at a time. The other night I was caught in one while riding to dinner, but usually I’ve managed to watch the storms from indoors. However, yesterday when I went to work to meet the other staff and get my introductory tour, I got my official Vientiane College poncho, so now I’m prepared. Poncho-on-motorbike is classic rainy season style here. The rainy season is coming to a close though. My friends who have been here for longer tell me that it’s definitely raining less often than it was earlier in the summer, and in October we’ll be transitioning to the “cool, dry” season. The “cool” part is all relative, but will definitely be refreshing.
