An Unintended Pet

Our “pet.”

About a week after we moved into our house this fall we started noticing a cat sleeping on our porch everyday.  Soon the cat moved to the back door of our house, where we go in and out, and began meowing when we came and went.  The meowing became loud, incessant, and incredibly annoying, and it began to fix us with a guilt-inducing evil glare each time we walked into the comfort of our food-filled kitchen, leaving it outside starving.  The street animal situation here is pretty unfortunate, with lots of grungy and skinny dogs and cats wandering around that are all pretty disgusting-looking (including the 8+ dogs that, unfortunately, live next door and bark in unison at random times).  After about 3 weeks of this, we finally gave in and bought cat food, not wanting to watch it get any skinnier.  So it has officially adopted us and isn’t going anywhere, even though we still won’t touch it, or let it in the house, or give it a name.  So now in addition to the hundreds of geckoes, we have a cat.
